We have been working with polymer layers which have a selective affinity for antisense target molecules through the polymer's backbone and electrolyte structure. We have worked with photoactive conjugated polyelectrolytes that can be used to report binding events, such as hybridization to cDNA, through amplified quenching of the polymer's emission profile. We can incorporate newly functionalized polymers on DNA templates, excite it through optical pumpling and sense the presence of nucleic acids with appended fluorescent markers. They can be utilized with fluidic bioassays or biochip arrays developed for gene expression targets and other analytes. |
